Pool Heater
A device that raises water temperature using gas, electric heat pump, or solar energy.
Definition
Pool heaters come in three main types: gas heaters (natural gas or propane), electric heat pumps, and solar systems. Gas heaters heat water rapidly but have higher operating costs. Heat pumps are more energy-efficient in warm climates but heat slowly. Solar systems have no operating cost but depend on sun availability and add time to the system. All heater types affect pool chemistry: higher water temperatures increase chlorine demand, pH rise, and LSI scaling tendency. Heater bypasses allow chemistry adjustment at lower temperatures to extend equipment life.
