Concrete Pool
A plastered or pebbled concrete pool requiring higher calcium hardness (200–400 ppm).
Definition
Concrete pools (gunite or shotcrete) have a plaster, aggregate (pebble), or tile surface applied over a concrete shell. These surfaces are porous and contain calcium — aggressive water (low LSI) actively dissolves calcium from the surface, causing etching, pitting, and roughness. Calcium hardness must be maintained at 200–400 ppm for plaster pools to prevent surface damage. Concrete pools are durable and highly customizable but require more careful chemistry management than vinyl or fiberglass pools.
