Hot Tub Chemical Levels Chart
What are ideal spa levels?
Ideal spa levels are:
Chlorine: 3–5 ppm
pH: 7.2–7.8
Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
Calculate Your Levels
Hot tubs need slightly different ranges than pools. Use our Hot Tub Chlorine Calculator and pH Calculator for dosing.
Ideal levels for hot tubs
| Chemical | Ideal range | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Free Chlorine | 3–5 ppm | Good |
| pH | 7.2–7.8 | Good |
| Total Alkalinity | 80–120 ppm | Good |
Too high
High chlorine or pH can irritate skin and reduce sanitizer effectiveness. High alkalinity makes pH hard to adjust.
Too low
Low chlorine allows bacteria; low pH can damage equipment and irritate skin. Add chemicals per our hot tub calculators.
